The Chakra Colours

Ever wondered why the chakra colours are as they are?

In order to understand this, we first need to think about is how colour is created…

Colour is created by the absorption & reflection of light on a surface. This creates an electromagnetic radiation which is made up of wavelengths. The frequency of the wavelengths (nm = nanometer) determines the depth of the reflection which creates the colour in our eyes.

E.g., if the person in front of you is wearing a white shirt, it will reflect all the colour of light so we see the shirt as white.

If it is a black shirt, the shirt will absorb all the colours of light so we see the shirt as black.

If it is a red shirt, the shirt will absorb all the colours of light except red so we see the shirt as red.

Now moving to the Chakra’s…

Each chakra will rotate at a different frequency & speed depending on its role & function. This makes them heavier or lighter depending on these properties.

The Root Chakra (Muladara) signifies our grounding which incorporates our safety & security. This is our foundation. By giving us our grounding - & the strong foundation this provides us - it rotates at a high frequency which is matched by the high frequency of its corresponding colour RED.

And so it goes on…

As we move up the chakras, they get lighter & lighter rotating at lower frequencies…

At the top we reach the Sahasrara Chakra - which signifies wisdom and is accessed through our spiritual self. It is our gateway to the divine so it is no surprise that it is the lightest of all the chakras, rotating with the lowest frequency. This is how it is represented by the colour VIOLET, the colour on the rainbow with the lowest frequency.

So there you have it, the rotation of each chakra - its frequency - is mapped to the frequency of colour - and a match is made to marry the chakra to its corresponding colour.

As we learn more about the chakras, we can use yoga movement to open our chakras. Chanting to cleanse our chakras. Sound baths with melodies at frequencies tuned to specific chakras. And we can wear colours to signify the chakra we are working on.
