When you think your yoga class has gone completely wrong…

Has this happened to you?

You start to deliver a class. You feel that it’s not going right. You worry about whether the students are getting the right experience. And then something throws you at the end.

This is exactly how it was for me. Exactly how I felt at a class which I delivered recently. And then at the end, one of the students comes over and says to me, “That what’s the best class I’ve heard from you.”

The feedback continued into the next day when I spoke to someone else who really enlightened me and made me understand.

Just back from a week of teaching in Crete. Each time I teach there, it just gets better and better.

This time there were a variety of styles covering Slow Flow, Yin & Yang, Meditation and Dynamic. The breadth of offering has been great for me to expand my teaching capacity as I tune my sequences to different levels whilst also learning to adjust vocal queueing and speed.

For me, breath is the key element to any asana practice whether Slow or Dynamic. Tuning the breath and using varying techniques helped me to add a further layer to the students experience.

Thank you to everyone who practised with me for making this experience what it was. Sharing our energy, sharing our gratitude and sharing our smiles. Finally a big thank you to my mentor in Crete @sparklyoga for continuing to trust and guide me.

A few hours in the olive grove the other day - in case you didn’t know, in my world outside yoga, I’m an olive oil producer!

Couldn’t resist a little yoga play, especially with those rocks which were just waiting for my hands to make contact. So lovely to get wild in the nature.

Who knows, maybe one day, yoga classes under the trees…
Gotta keep innovating and keeping the excitement 💫

CELEBRATING 1 YEAR OF MY ONLINE CLASS

After qualifying as a yoga teacher last year, this was the first thing I did. Setting up my online class which I run once a month. Some of the students have been there from the start. Most months there’s someone new. From time to time I run special themed classes. The entire experience has been extremely rewarding and marking the one year milestone is a very special moment for someone like me who hasn’t been teaching for very long.

To celebrate the 1 year milestone, this class will feature some of my favourite sequences and asanas. Enjoy 60 minutes of slowing down, expanding the body to create space and breathing into this space.

Celebrating 1 year of my online class

When I made the transition last year from a trainee teacher to ‘actual’ teacher, one of the first things I did was create my online class, which I run monthly.

I made a conscious decision to run this as a free class out of service to yoga for all it has given me. If you’ve read my “Who Am I” post (pinned) you’ll know that yoga pulled me out of a hole & helped me heal. Moreover, it helped me to deal with lifelong fears & insecurities, making me the best version of myself. This is my thank you, by offering this free class to help others get onto (or back onto) the yoga path.

Client study: One friend decided to join. His wife used to practice regularly but stopped after having children. He decided to join to encourage her. Seeing him join, gave her the courage to join. They are now my most regular attendees. He did it for her. She’s now thinking of returning to her old yoga studio 😀

This was truly magical, a performance of ancient Indian instruments performed by 2 dedicated musicians on the beautiful island of Crete.

The Pakhawaj, ancestor of the Tabla, rich in harmony and a melodic bass. Played by Nikhil Ghorpadkar who comes from a family of musicians in Pune, India.

Accompanied by the Rudra Veena, ancestor of the Sitar, said to be created by Lord Shiva. This beautiful hand made instrument has the most enchanting, meditative sound. Played by Nektarios Mitritsakis who is from Chania in Crete and one of only two Rudra Veena artists in all of Europe.

This was the most extraordinary and blessed experience especially seeing the music put together through the fusion of talent from India and Greece. The way the two flowed with their sounds. Nothing was rehearsed. Fully improvised and in sync with one another’s rhythm and melody. For the observer, the music took us into a meditative state where our portals were in a deep state of stillness and fully immersed by the sound.

Graciously guided by our Kundalini priestess Jools, taking us on a journey today to get into our vagus nerve and find a deep reset in our parasympathetic nervous system.

Today’s class packed a punch. Slow and long movements building up with multiple layers as we found more and more strength. Intertwined with lions breath & puppy breath threaded into the movement to get deeper into our nervous system.

What a journey. And with my kundalini buddies @valeriebraff and @christopherpau5 the air was swirling with positive vibrations.
