Removing the things from our lives that we don’t really use and keeping our possessions to a minimum, to those we genuinely use.
This is Aparigraha - the yama of non-attachment, removing possessiveness of material objects; non-hoarding so we remove the things from our lives that we don’t really use and keep our possessions to a minimum, to those we genuinely use.
Let’s take this yama further and think about the possessions we hold inside our body. Namely our emotions and our feelings.
What if we have a clearout of these possessions which we hold inside our body?
Sometimes in life we walk around holding onto too much baggage - emotions and feelings that do not serve us. And if they do not serve us, why are we still walking around carrying them. All we’re doing is walking around carrying a suitcase full of stones.
This is the beauty of yoga. It allows us to have a clearout. By getting deep inside the spine, the place where we hold our emotions & feelings. Getting into this space, stretching & breathing, releasing our baggage - all the emotions and feelings that do not serve us.
If we practice Aparigraha, it should apply internally as much as it applies externally.
