This month I’m fundraising for Burma. In this video, I’m reading an extract from my journal which I wrote on Saturday 19th August 2006, when I was in Burma. The extract that the rest of the video explains why I’m fundraising for Burma.
The fundraise is coming from all my yoga classes in October. Class contributions from all my classes will all be gathered and donated to my chosen charity Better Burma.
There are a lot of crises around the world at the moment but Burma doesn’t get enough attention, especially as the struggles of many innocent people there (especially children) has been ongoing for so much longer than the crises that are more dominant in the news.
The struggles in Burma were made worse earlier this year in March when a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck in Mandalay, the second largest city in Burma. Thousands of families have been displaced, struggling to survive without food, shelter or medical care. Better Burma works at grass roots level, supporting many ethnic and religious minorities and marginalised communities in areas beyond military controlled regions.
All contributions from my classes throughout October will be gathers and donated to Better Burma.
I’m really grateful to everyone who’s been attending and will continue to attend. By being there, you make such a difference.
